The result sent Punjab crashing out of the tournament while 39-time champions Mumbai secured top spot in Group A with 25 points.
Mumbai, who already had a first innings lead of 204, dismissed Punjab for 330 in their second essay and then surged to the target, making 132 for one with more than 10 out of the 15 mandatory overs to spare at the Wankhede Stadium.
