Another flyover to come up on Western E-way to ease traffic woes

There is good news for commuters presently getting stuck in traffic at the Kherwadi junction on the Western Express Highway. Motorists will soon be able to ease the bottleneck Kherwadi junction in Bandra (East) in the Western suburbs thanks to a new flyover. Though the flyover is still in the planning stage, the authorites hope to construct the flyover in quickfire time to provide much-needed help to the harrowed commuters.u00a0

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has invited tenders from experienced and recognised contractors to design and construct a 580-metre and 25-metre wide flyover.

The flyover will provide great relief to commuters who cross the Kalanagar junction flyover and get stuck at the Kherwadi junction before proceeding to the Vakola junction flyover, in turn, saving invaluable time and fuel.

The construction of the Rs 38-crore flyover is expected to begin in January 2013. Considering the congestion at this particular spot, the authorities have decided to construct this flyover arm-by-arm, i.e; both arms will be constructed within a period of eighteen months. “This will help provide more space for the commuters even during the construction activity and the traffic police will be able to maintain smooth sailing of vehicles through peak hours”, said Dilip Kawathkar, Joint Project Director (PR), MMRDA.u00a0
