At the University Pavilion, Marine Lines yesterday, the 15-year-old was able to win it as the top seed in girls U-16 Payal Bohra and second seed Dyuti Patki withdrew from the MSSA tournament to participate in the District Sports Office (DSO) and the state selection tournaments.

Same was the case in the boys U-16 with top seed Shubham Amre deciding to give the MSSA event a miss. Second seed Shaurya Pednekar of Jamnabai Narsee School (Juhu) beat fourth seed Parthav Kelkar of IES VN Sule Guruji (Dadar) 13-11,11-04,18-16 to win the final.

Talking about the absence of top seeds in the tournament Antara said, "I am really lucky that because of their absence I got to win my first MSSA title. If they would have participated, I am not sure if I would have reached the final or not."

Meanwhile, Vidhi felt otherwise. "It is a good opportunity to play against better players. Since they were not here, matches were not that tough. It would have been an achievement to defeat a seeded player and win a title," said the Goregaon school paddler.

The boys U-16 winner Shaurya felt that it makes no difference who the opponent is in the final. "Yes, Shubham is a much better player and was expected to win. For me, it doesn't matter who I'm playing in the final as no player can be taken lightly. I cannot really say that Shubham's presence or absence affected my performance."

Other results: (All finals) B-U-14: Varun Sharma (Cathedral & John Connon) bt Akshay Sagar (Cathedral & John Connon) 11-3,11-6,11-9; B-U-12: 3: Jash Jabalia (Utpal Sanghvi School) bt Krish Kabrani (Jamnabai Narsee School) 12-14,11-7,11-5,3-11,11-9; B-U-10: Jash Modi (Kapol Vidyanidhi International School) bt Rajveer Shah (Jamnabai Narsee School) 14-12, 12-10, 11-9, 13-11;G-U-14: Neeha Gupta (Jamnabai Narsee) bt Pranjal Shinde (Swami Vivekanand International) 8-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-7; G-U-12: Diya Chitale (Arya Vidyamandir) bt Vidhi Shah (Jamnabai Narsee) 11-6, 11-8, 11-7; G-U-10: Tia D'Souza (Lakshdham High School, Goregaon) bt Ananya Chande (Arya Vidyamandir Bandra) 11-3, 11-5, 11-4.
