From GPS-based cab aggregators to public transport information apps like M-Indicator, Ridlr and Transitpedia offering regular updates and warnings to commuters, intra-city travels have never been this smooth for Mumbaikars (we’re not counting the breakdowns of local train services). Now, setting a new standard in this ecosystem of commuter services is InstaGo. Available for free download, the app allows users to search, compare and book taxis, autos and other modes of transport on a single platform.
To use the app, just add your current location and destination, and InstaGo will find out the best route as well as the various modes of transport available to reach your destination. The service offers suggestions for public transport such as buses and trains as well as rickshaws and taxis along with approximate cost to reach your destination. But isn’t that
what most commuter apps do these days?
What’s the difference?
InstaGo goes a step further, and allows you to book a cab via taxi aggregators like Uber, Ola, TaxiForSure and Meru, among others. However, to complete a booking, you will require apps from these cab services already installed on your phone, else it will take you to Google Play Store to download the app of the selected taxi aggregator. We would have liked similar integration with public transport apps like UTS (for railways) and ticket booking for buses too. And that, we are told, will be added soon.
And, uf you decide to walk or cycle to your destination, InstaGo will tell you the amount of calories you’ll burn in a trip too. And, that’s an interesting feature. We also like the map on the platform. Not only does it cover the roads, but also sidewalks to help you reach your destination smoothly. The app can also be used to share rides and reach shared taxi services in the city.
