Disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong failed in hid bid to try and talk the American government into not suing him to recover the sponsorship money pumped in by the US Postal Service into his teams competing in international events, Armstrong's lawyer said yesterday.
In a statement released yesterday, lawyer Robert Luskin said: “Lance and his representatives worked constructively over these last weeks with federal lawyers to resolve this case fairly, but those talks failed because we disagree about whether the Postal Service was damaged.
The Postal Service’s own studies show that the service benefited tremendously from its sponsorship, with benefits totaling more than USD 100 million.”u00a0
As a result of this, Armstrong could now be sued by the government of the United States of America for effectively defrauding the taxpayer as his team was funded by the government.u00a0
