Alarmed by the 74-year-old activist's weakening health, a panel of doctors from different corners of the city are on standby round the clock at the BKCu00a0-- ready to rush in and minister to the ailing Hazare if his condition deteriorates.

A panel of medical experts -- including a cardiac surgeon, Hazare's personal physician from Ralegan Siddhi, and paramedical teams from Jaslok hospital, Asian Heart Institute, Bombay hospital and JJ hospital are camping at the MMRDA ground in BKC, to tend to the lifeline of the Lokpal protest.

Dr Daulat Pote, the anti-graft crusader's personal doctor from Ralegan Siddhi, has been an unfailing presence in Anna's 12-year-long career as a social activist, accompanying him to all his 17 agitations. He said, "We examined Anna in the afternoon, and his health parameters are normal. He is still running a high temperature, and this is a matter of concern. But the fever is under control."
"Anna has contracted a viral infection, and as a consequence is suffering from high temperatures. Since he is fasting, we have advised that he keep himself hydrated. We have also prescribed the antibiotic so that he doesn't contract any infections," said Pote.
According to Dr Pote, Anna's body begins to show symptoms of weakness from the third day of a fast - his blood pressure rises, and his mobility becomes limited.
During his fast, Anna drinks around 3.5-4 litres of warm water at regular intervals. He retires to bed at 9 pm when he is fasting, and abstains from his usual yoga sessions to avoid exertion.
Dr Ratna Magotra, a cardiac surgeon and member of the emergency medical unit manning the protest ground, said, "We are satisfied with Anna's health parameters, and are ready to tackle any medical emergency that may arise."u00a0
The increasing number of mosquitoes populating the protest ground also raised alarm among his supporters.
