23-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner Pawan Negi has made his T20 international debut on Thursday against UAE in the Asia Cup tie at Mirpur.
Negi, selected as the fourth spinner in India's Asia Cup and World T20 squads, takes the field in place of Ravindra Jadeja in the inconsequential round-robin match.
India have already qualified for the final of the tournament and will face Bangladesh in the summit clash.
BCCI posted the big moment when Negi was handed his Team India cap by team Director Ravi Shastri at Mirpur.
Negi, who emerged as the most expensive Indian player during the recent IPL auction when he was bought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 8.5 crore, has warmed the benches but he is someone, who can bowl wicket-to-wicket like his senior Jadeja.
In terms of batting abilities, those who have seen Negi in domestic and franchise games will vouch that he is a better six-hitter than Jadeja on any given day. The only area where Jadeja is cut above Negi is fielding.
It remains to be seen if Negi will get a chance to bat, but India will be hoping he grabs the opportunity with both hands and gives the team one more all-round option for the World T20.
India have made two other changes to the playing eleven, bringing in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harbhajan Singh in place of Ashish Nehra and Ravichandran Ashwin.
India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Hardik Pandya, Pawan Negi, Harbhajan Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah.
United Arab Emirates: Amjad Javed (C), Rohan Mustafa, Muhammad Kaleem, Mohammad Shahzad, Shaiman Anwar, Muhammad Usman, Mohammad Naveed, SP Patil, Qadeer Ahmed, Fahad Tariq, Ahmed Raza.
