The Assam government is planning to buy Bhupen Hazarika's Kolkata residence and turn it into a cultural centre.

The house, formerly owned by the late music maestro, is now owned by Sushil Kumar Dangi. Assam Minister of State for Cultural Affairs Naba Kumar Doley and chief minister's media adviser Hrishikesh Goswami held negotiations with the owner, who bought the house from the late singer. Hazarika used to live there from the middle of 1950 till he shifted to Mumbai to pursue a career in music.
