Kabul: At least seven people, including a senior local judge, were killed and 19 others wounded after militants stormed a court in Afghanistan's Logar province on Sunday, police said.

The attack took place around 11.00 a.m. in the provincial capital of Pul-e-Alam city, Xinhua news agency reported.

"The initial reports found five civilians were killed and 19 others wounded in Sunday morning's attack on Logar provincial Appeal Court office building," a senior police official said.

Among the killed was Akram Nejat, head of the provincial Appellate Court, the official confirmed.

"The attack took place when an official ceremony was underway in the building. Nejat was appointed recently to serve as the chairman of provincial court," the police official said.

Two suicide bombers were also killed in the attack and at least one explosion occurred inside the building's yard, he added.
