A 37-year-old man lured three of his nieces to leave their impoverished home in Malwani and come live with him in Oshiwara, only to rape them repeatedly in the stretch of a year
His wife, the children’s aunt, conspired with him and facilitated the crime. The Oshiwara police have arrested both husband and wife. The nieces are all minors, and belong to a poor family. Before staying with their uncle in Oshiwara, they lived in Malwani. Their aunt, however, insisted that they come live in the city with them, a year ago. “After they started living with their aunt and uncle, the woman told the eldest girl in the trio that if she wanted her weight to increase, she should have sex with her uncle, convincing her that her face would glow afterwards.
When the girl refused, the aunt started threatening her,” said API Ravindra Patil from Oshiwara police station. One day, the uncle raped the 17-year-old, with the assistance of his wife. The rapes continued over the months that followed. Soon, the man started forcing himself upon her younger sister, and finally took advantage of the youngest sibling.
According to the police, the couple kept threatened the girls, saying they had made video clips of them while they were being raped, and would make them public if they dared to complain about the rapes. Around six months ago, their father came to know about the atrocities, but when he confronted the man, he threatened to kill him. He lodged a complaint, after which the duo was arrested under section 376 of the IPC and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act. They will be produced in court today, sources added.
