Aurangabad: Rumours of children being kidnapped from various parts of the district reached its climax today, after a panic-stricken mob killed a mentally challenged youth, suspecting him to be kidnapper, police sources said.
The incident took place in the Kannad tehsil of the district on Thursday afternoonm, according to police sources. The name of the victim is not yet known though villagers seem to have known him. Only two days before the incident, the Aurangabad police had issued a press note urging citizens not to panic or fall prey to rumours of children being kidnapping.
Notably, five people including two women were assaulted by a mob in Aurangabad city, Chikalthana as well as Mukundwadi earlier this week. These incidents were followed by today's incident whre the mentally challenged youth was beaten to death by a panic stricken mob. The police have registered a case of murder against unidentified people.
