Months after singer Sonu Nigam received backlash for his 'azaan tweet', actress and writer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi filed a complaint this morning for being 'sexually trolled' on Twitter for sharing a similar tweet this week.

On July 23, Suchitra had tweeted complaining about the sound of azaan after reaching home early in the morning. "Came home at 4.45 am 2 most aggressive/ ear shattering call of azaan. Nothing more lowlife & dumb than such extreme imposed religiousity," she wrote.

Soon after, she became the target of several sexually abusive tweets, with some threatening to rape her. In response, she tweeted, "Look at these perverts! Feel sorry for my India – with this kind of attitude towards women its no wonder we've become the rape capital of d world."

She also tagged the Mumbai police commissioner and the Mumbai police cyber cell, asking them to look into the matter. Speaking to mid-day this morning, Suchitra said she was "on her way to file a complaint against the sexually abusive and vile tweets with threats of rape".
