Sajid Khan recently shot a few scenes of his upcoming film at London's iconic MI6 building, which is popular as the head office of 007. In the past few years, Bollywood filmmakers have shot at quite a few exotic and interesting places. We takes you on a world tour.

B-Town films that were shot in exotic locations

Film: Veer (2010)
Location: Buckingham Palace, London

Salman Khan made his entry into the Queen’s residence for the shoot of his film, Veer. It was the first Bollywood film to be shot inside the palace with the makers paying a whopping 50,000 pounds to the authorities. Permission was taken much in advance. Sadly, the film was a royal flop.

My Name Is Khan (2010)
Location: California State Capitol Building

This building represented the White House in the climax of MNIK where Rizvan Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) meets US President Barack Obama. The California State Capitol at Sacramento is the administrative office of the governor and a museum as well.

Film: Kajraare (2011)
Location: Petra, Jordan

Though Himesh Reshammiya’s Kajraare sank without a trace, what stood out was the portion shot at Petra, which is referred to as the eighth wonder of the world. A hidden city in the mountains of Jordan, Petra was discovered in 1812. The song Kajra Kajra Kajraare was filmed at Al Khazneh, the ancient treasury, which was also seen in the Harrison Ford thriller, Indiana Jones And The Crusade. We wish Himesh’s film was as much fun as Harrison’s.

Film: Endhiran (Robot) (2010)
Location: Machu Picchu, Peru

This Rajnikanth starrer was the first Indian film to be shot at this world-famous heritage site in Peru. The makers of the James Bond flick Quantam Of Solace also wanted to shoot at this pre-Columbian monument but were denied the permission to do so. Funnily, the lines of the song shot here go as Kilimanjaro ladki parvat ki yaaro. Kilimanjaro is a famous volcanic mountain in Tanzania, East Africa. We guess the exoticism of Machu Picchu just wasn’t enough.

Film: Race 2 (2013)
Location: Mardan Palace, Antalya, Turkey

Remember the palatial home of Armaan (John Abraham) and Alina Malik (Deepika Padukone) in Race 2. Well, the filmmakers spared no money or effort for this opulence. The scenes were shot in Mardan Palace, considered to be the most expensive resort in Europe and the Mediterranean. The opening of this resort in 2009 was graced by celebrities like Sharon Stone, Mariah Carey, Richard Gere, Monica Bellucci and Seal.

I feel that it’s not only foreign locations but also places in India can be exploited for enhancing the visual appeal of a film. The destination should be financially viable as well.

For Players, we wanted a train sequence in the snow. We had to travel all the way to Mourmunsk in extreme northwest of Russia to shoot that part. My favourite location abroad is Cape Town in South Africa. Wherever you place the camera, you capture great sights. Exotic locations add to the visual feel of a film. u00a0
