Putting to rest the 'poster' girl image of female actors in Hindi cinema, the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) is organising a first-ever exhibition of women on reel. The exhibition titled 'Venus Feminine Roles in Reels' will be displayed at the 40th Goa International Film Festival from November 23 to December 3.





The exhibits
Reproductions of 300 Indian film posters, highlighting the importance of female characters in films, will be displayed. Each poster will have captions in Hindi and English. The films include Raja Harishchandra (1931), the first Indian feature film to John and Jane (2008), a film on male-female relationships in BPOs.

Vijay Jadhav, director, NFAI said, "Women actors have given many memorable moments. It is time to cherish them." Aarti Karkhanis, of NFAI, saidu00a0 most popular female roles were those of revolutionaries.

"Nargis's Radha in Mother India and Madhuri Dixit Nene's Phoolva in Mrutyudand are some examples," she said.
