When sisters collaborate on a fashion label, the results are usually magnificent. Think gown queens Gauri Nainika from Mumbai and fusion wear czarinas Mona Lamba and Pali Sachdev of Kolkata.

Bangalore also has its very own sister designer duo and their eight-month old label Susha is already creating ripples in the city.

They are reluctant to divulge their celebrity clients, unlike most designers who shamelessly flaunt theirs, but Shushma and Suhasini(do you see where they got the name of their label from?) are confident that each one of their sarees is worth taking home.

Currently working out of their Hayes Road residence, the sisters do a marvellous range of sarees, cholis, dress materials, anarkalis and other types of salwar kurtas.

It all started when Sushma quit her IT job after the birth of her son and Suhasini, a pilot, who has an enviable collection of sarees, urged her to design sarees.

Each of their sarees, sourced from across India, is unique. "There are sensuous soft georgettes from Bangalore, crepes, cotton sarees and soft and woven silks, tussars from Calcutta, Ahmedabad and Mumbai and Chennai.

The printing is done in Jaipur, Hyderabad and Chennai and we have a printing unit in Bangalore also. I personally sit with the printers and design some of the sarees," says Sushma.

The colour palette is also vast including all the rainbow colours along with maroons, creams and purples.
Ask them if the saree is losing relevance in the jet setting urban world and they vehemently oppose the idea.

"We have women in all age groups buying sarees from us, even those in their 20s who keep coming back to us.

So I don't think the saree has lost its glory. What's important is we don't mass produce and that always gives the customer something to be excited about," says Sushma.
