Badlapur school bus rape: Principal ignored 4-yr-old's rape complaint, say cops

After the shocking case of the rape of a four-year-old came to light on Saturday (‘4-year-old from Badlapur raped in school bus, September 15’), the police have revealed that the girl may have narrated the entire incident to her class teacher the next day. The class teacher, in turn, had told the principal. But the principal allegedly took no action and ignored the incident.

Public anger: The school bus was vandalised by the locals, after they came to know of the rape on Saturday.

The girl, who studies in a school in Badlapur, was allegedly raped by the cleaner of the bus on September 6.

The girl’s family came to know of the incident when they were at a relative’s place and the girl complained of stomach pain. When the girl narrated the incident to her aunt, she was taken to a private clinic, where the family was told that the girl may have been raped. The girl was taken to the Central hospital, and later shifted to JJ Hospital for medical treatment. According to the Badlapur police, the medical report showed that the girl had been raped.

A rape case was registered on Saturday against the school bus cleaner, Sandeep Kirve (26), at Badlapur police station. A police official said, “The child is very active and she answered all the questions asked. We have found that the child had also told the class teacher, and the news had reached the principal. But instead of taking action, they ignored the incident. Hence, for verification purposes, we will call both of them and record their statements.”

The police will also check the CCTV footage to see if the girl had gone up to the teacher, and to look for any other clues that might help the case, as the cameras also show the grounds where the buses are parked.

Dilip Patil, senior inspector of Badlapur police station said, “The investigations are still on, and we cannot reveal anything more on this.”

On Saturday, when the rape case was revealed, locals went on a rampage and vandalised the buses. Hence, the school has shut from September 16-18, due to non-availability of buses.

When MiD DAY went to meet the principal of the school, there were cops at the gate and the school was shut.u00a0
