Cops think witnesses may be able to throw more light on case now as they will be out of shock after 40 days
Forty days after the bomb blast that reduced German Bakery to rubble, the police think the time has come to have a chat with witnesses again.
Police sources said going over the February 13 terrorist attack with the witnesses all over again may help the investigation because people would be over any mental trauma by now.
An IT professional, on condition of anonymity, said, "I was asked to take leave from office and report to the Commissioner's office. We were shown CCTV clippings and asked to recall suspicious people or activities on February 13. We spent the entire day there."
One of the waiters working for the German Bakery also confirmed that about a dozen people were called on Monday and the CCTV footage replayed for them as an aid to their memories.
Better recall
Psychiatrist Dr Jyoti Shetty said, "Thirty days is a good time for anxious people to have settled down. And once the shock is over, it is possible the person is able to recall certain information they had missed earlier."
The Valentine's Day eve blast killed over 15 people and reduced the popular Koregaon Park bakery to rubble.
Clearing debris
On Monday, the Bundgarden police station issued a letter to the bakery owner asking them to start clearing the debris, which the police so far had not allowed for investigation purposes.
The police were present as the clearing of the rubble began, and they collected the plastic roof sheet and parts of the iron fencing in three gunny bags as evidence.
Gopal Karkee, manager of German Bakery, said there were verbal instructions to preserve anything they would find at the site. Karkee said, "The letter from the police said they would collect certain things from the debris and the rest could be thrown."
Pravinkumar Pant, the cashier working with German Bakery for the past 10 years, said, "The clearing of debris was started in the presence of two police officers. The police are supervising the work and collecting burnt metal and wire pieces for investigation purposes." Pant said he was still to completely get over his shock. "I asked Paras Trimal to check the unattended bag, after which there was an explosion," he said.
