What do you do if are awfully tempted to eat a Vada Pav but your diet stops you from making that crucial choice? You head to Essence, the one week-old addition to Andheri's string of patisseries, and grab a bite of a baked Vada Pav. It might lack the raste ka mazaa, but will surely not leave you feeling guilty of slipping off your diet regime.

The menu: Is exhaustive. Pastry varieties include Chocolate Marble Glasso Pastry, Pinacolada Mousse Cake, Lemon Curd, chocolate tarts, muffins and brownies. They also stock vegetarian and non-vegetarian croissants, calzones and pizzas, Paneer Chilly Puff Roll and Peppered Garlic Chicken Trellis, sandwiches and buns stuffed with Anda Bhurji and Kheema, tea-time loafs, a wide range of cookies including Oatmeal and Raisin and Chocolate Cashew,u00a0 Mini Bhakharwadi and Tomato Banana Wafers. You can also choose from a range of Havmor ice creams that are available in single scoops as well as combo party packs.

Additionally, the bakery stocks everything from balloons, candles to snow sprays, that you might need to organise your chuddi buddy's birthday party.

We tried: A few food racks were almost empty by the time we were there. So we suggest you drop in early.

After a quick scan of the shelves, we settled for a Fruit Cake (Rs 80), Cappuccino Tart (Rs 19) and Shrewsberry cookies (Rs 36). Cappuccino Tart had a strong whiff of coffee, while Fruit Cake was loaded with Tutty Frutti a perfect tea-time loaf. Exotic Fresh Cream Caramel (Rs 40) was deliciously soft while the Paneer Schezwan Croissant (Rs 30)u00a0u00a0 left us with an upset stomach since the bread was stale and the Schezwan filling had a soury taste.u00a0

Prices: With most desserts priced between Rs 10 and Rs 50 and snacks priced between Rs 15 and Rs 80, this is a good value-for-money snack joint. Weight-watchers can go for low-fat options that include Roasted Jawar, Disco Papad Mari, whole wheat biscuits, Naachani chips and Jaipur Roasted Mix.

We suggest: You settle for a takeaway since the place is tiny with no room to sit down and enjoy your snacks.
