Deccan’s second consecutive win at home also helped title holders Chennai Super Kings qualify for the playoffs as the fourth team. Both CSK and RCB finished with 17 points each but Chennai went ahead on the basis of a better net run-rate.

Kohli blasts batsmen
RCB skipper Virat Kohli blamed his batsmen for the defeat. After restricting the Chargers to 132-7, Bangalore were restricted to 123-9. “We could have played better shots, we did not play the right shots on that wicket. We needed to get in first and cash in at the end. My wicket probably changed the game. We needed 30 off 24 at that stage,” Kohli rued after the defeat.

“We just need to learn from our mistakes and come back stronger next year. The wicket was not that bad to bat on, it was a bit two-paced but you needed to have clarity in the mind about what sort of shots to play,” he added.

Kohli, however, said his team played good cricket in IPL-V. “We played great cricket in the tournament, we lost a few matches and it affected our run-rate but overall we played well,” he said.u00a0Earlier, put into bat, a late charge by JP Duminy (74) helped DC recover from 51-4 to 132-7.

Defending 133, fiery bowling by Steyn, key breakthroughs by Amit Mishra (2-26) and Ashish Reddy (3-25) helped them choke the visitors’ batsmen. Steyn accounted for wickets of Chris Gayle (27), Tillakaratne Dilshan (4) and Zaheer Khan (0). u00a0For RCB, Kohli top-scored with 42 and Saurabh Tiwary scored 30 but not enough to take them past the line. u00a0
