Manchester: Pep Guardiola must plan for the eagerly awaited Manchester derby without Sergio Aguero after the Argentina striker received a three-match ban for violent conduct.

The Manchester City forward was charged retrospectively by the Football Association after appearing to elbow West Ham's Winston Reid in the second half of the Premier League game at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.

The incident, after which Reid was seen holding his neck, was missed by referee Andre Marriner and his fellow officials during the match.

The charge was issued after a review panel felt he should have been sent off. The charge was subsequently contested by City, but the FA announced on Friday that this had been rejected.

Aguero will now be banned for City's next three domestic matches — starting with the derby against United at Old Trafford on September 10. He will also sit out the home clash with Bournemouth on September 17 and the EFL Cup third-round clash at Swansea four days later.
