Lucknow: The husband of the woman who was allegedly set on fire by two policemen in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district has rejected reports that she had self-immolated.

'She gave a dying declaration, she was ill-treated and misbehaved with. No reason she would self-immolate,' said the victim's husband.

The victim's son had earlier demanded justice for his mother, saying she would only rest in peace when the guilty are punished.

Meanwhile, the victim's colleague said she remembered the anganwadi worker as an honest and hard working woman.

According to reports, the woman had gone to the police station to free her husband, who had been picked up for questioning. When she refused to bribe the policemen in order to release her husband, she was set ablaze.
