New flash ads on gaming portals will cut revenue loss due to piracy




Gaming portals have been one of the favourite targets of grey market players. Games are stolen and put on pirated websites where users play them without paying any subscription fees, incurring huge losses to the industry.

Now, with the help of a cutting-edge technology, gaming websites can put invisible Flash advertisements on their games. The advantage is that even if somebody copies the game, the invisible ad gets copied too.

Therefore, even if a pirated version of the game is accessed, the advertisement revenue remains intact.

Called Invizi Ads, they are put by inserting a code into the game before making it live. Then depending on their deals with other gaming partner portals (licence or revenue sharing or both, etc), they can make these advertisements either visible or invisible on these portals.

According to Games2win (G2W), a leading online flash games website, with the embedded codes the advertisements on these portals can be made visible, thus allowing the advertising companies a larger spread and reach for their campaign. This will also generate revenue for the developers for every game played.

Commenting on the unique revenue model of Invizi Ads, Games2win founder and CEO, Alok Kejriwal, said, "About a year ago, Games2win discovered that once we published a game on our site, thousands of other sites would copy and paste these games on their sitesu00a0almost following an unwritten protocol on the Internet to share and swap original content. While this resulted in massive distribution for the game developers, there was no revenue benefit. The quest to capture this large economic gap led to the creation of Invizi Ads."

"What attracts advertisers to promote Invizi Ads is the fact that almost one out of two users of the World Wide Web or 415 million people now play online games (comScore data June 2008). This offers huge audiences to advertisers. Also, it's proven that 'in-game' advertising provides superior returns to advertisers especially with reference to the high CTR's (Click Thru Rates) that these in-game ad units deliver," added Kejriwal.

G2W informed that Invizi Ads are played across more than 2,000 online gaming sites by consumers from across 150 countries.
