Low-key is never how Shiv Sena ever really does it. So celebrations were bound to be loud after Aaditya Thackeray, Sena's youth wing leader, pulverised Uncle Raj's MNS in the Mumbai University Senate elections. But the nephew really knows how to rub it in.

When Aaditya, son of Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray, returned to Sena Bhawan with the elected Senate members on Wednesday evening, after cornering eight of the 10 Senate seats, the songs that greeted the winners were loud enough to bring the house down in Shivaji Park.

Even as Sena members said that a committee in the Sena decided on a bunch of songs, and this just happened to be one of them, Aaditya clarified it was nothing personal, just the mood. "The atmosphere was such that we decided to play this song. We didn't think it would affect any individual.

It was only for us," said the leader.

Sena member Rahul Khedekar said, "We played many songs to celebrate our victory. We weren't concerned whether the songs hurt any individual." He further added, "We contested alone, whereas other parties formed alliances and still faced defeat. 'Yeh toh Aadtiya Thackeray ki jhaaki hai abhi bahut kuch baaki hai."

It is said that MNS contested the election with the Congress and Nitesh Rane's Swabhimaan Sanghatana.
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is pulling a poker face about the musical jab. Any activity by Shiv Sena doesn't bother them anymore, members said.

"They cannot affect us by playing songs. We don't bother about their activities. Actually they are scared of the growing popularity of our party amongst the youth.

Our success has shocked them. We won 13 MLA and 27 corporators' seats in the KDMC elections. But their performance was dismal in both the elections," a senior MNS leader said.

The women in MNS, though, are a little peeved at what they think was an indecorous stunt. "There is no comparison between Raj Saheb and Aaditya Thackeray.

Saheb is an established leader, whereas Aaditya heads the youth wing. Even I heard the songs that were played outside Sena Bhawan.

It was a cheap stunt. We wish Aadtiya luck, but such things should be avoided," said Rita Gupta, vice-president, women's wing, MNS.

Sach keh gaye hain log puraane,

Ek Cutting!
Deja vu

In 2005, after Raj Thackeray and former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi's son Umesh purchased Kohinoor mill in a joint venture, the song 'Tere ghar ke saamne ek ghar banaoonga' was blared to celebrate outside the mill, which incidentally stands bang opposite Sena Bhawan. People staying near Sena Bhawan claimed that the song was played because the land was near the Shiv Sena Bhawan.
