In show business, stardom has often been perceived as a drug that few can handle. While many learn the art of concealing their newfound worth with forced humility, others show little care while acting on impulse.

Among a series of box-office duds, Bhumi Pednekar's recently released Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which paired her alongside Akshay Kumar, was applauded. The success, it was suggested, had consumed the actor all too soon.

An insider from Pednekar's talent management company told industry folk that she was throwing her weight around, even losing her temper quickly. In an interview to mid-day, Pednekar calmly dismisses such suggestions.

"I don't know where these rumours are coming from," she says, adding that the accusation is bothersome since it hints at her character. "It's a comment on my upbringing, so, that is disturbing. But, I need to take it in my stride and move ahead.

Those who know me don't agree with the things that have been written," she says, supporting her response by citing that she still "greets the security guard" at Yash Raj Films, a firm she has been associated with for several years, and "shares a meal with my staff".

Having worked as a casting agent for six years before she got an acting break, the actor says she is aware of the treatment meted out to celebrities. "I know how the industry functions and am at the receiving end [after achieving success]. But, I am new to the industry, and I don't know how to deal with it."

The actor is ready for the release of the comedy-drama, 'Shubh Mangal Savdhan', opposite Ayushmann Khurrana.
