Big Bull's flats create friction in society

The auction of Harshad Mehta's eight interconnected flats at Worli has resulted in a war of words between his brother and the treasurer of the society.

Ashwin Mehta has written a letter (a copy of which is with MiD DAY) to the residents of Madhuli Co-op Housing Society, complaining about Viren Shah's behaviour.

Mehta alleges that Shah, the treasurer, sent messages to residents of the society to jointly bid for the flats and even inspected them.

When asked about the letter, Mehta said, "This is strictly a matter between the Mehta family and our society member. I wouldn't like to comment on it." However, Shah, the treasurer of the society, confirmed that such a letter has been circulated and does not deny Mehta's allegations either.

"I did send messages to some residents about bidding for the flats, but we dropped the plan. I am least concerned about who gets the flats. I am only interested getting the dues that the Mehta's owe to the society."

Shah further added that nearly 10 years ago, the society had disconnected cable connections and stopped access to other facilities to the Mehta's because of non-payment of society bills.

When contacted, Prakash Khoopchandani, chairperson, Madhuli, denied having any information on the issue and refused to comment.

However, an insider revealed that trouble between the two parties is not new.
