What makes a televised game-watching experience worth abandoning the couch for? What's On finds out

Ifu00a0 your idea of a great Saturday night is to sit hunched before a high-definition television, sipping frothy beer and screaming yourself hoarse with scores of other soccer fans, then you are in luck. Bangalore's just got itself two new sports bars one in upscale Indiranagar and the other on busy Church Street.

For fans only
At Xtreme Sports Bar in Indiranagar, you shouldn't be surprised to see grown men and women behaving like college ungrads as they watch extreme sports unfold on the giant screens in front of them.u00a0

When there's a commercial break, look around and soak in the ambience. The coasters have smart lines like, 'I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered'.

The du00e9cor is casual. You could lounge on beanbags in sunny hues or stake your claim to a booth where the tables have insets of cars, bikes and sporty gear.u00a0u00a0

Giant plasma LCD screens that offer pulsating surround sound are the big attraction of the place. Equipped with wi-fi zones, this hangout is a gizmo buff's dream come true.u00a0

Friday evenings are karoke evenings led by Val. DJ Collins plays a funky mix of retro and classic rock. Entry to the bar is free on weekdays but there's a cover charge on weekends and special event nights.u00a0

On the food menu, the steaks and salad reign supreme. If you want variety, try the fried calamari, the fajitas or the pasta. Except for the chicken, everything else was above average. There are plans to start a lunch buffet with beer. The bar menu has a range of shooters, flamers, margaritas or fresh fruit martinis.u00a0

The bar menu offers drinks like Magic Johnson, Maria Sharapova, Dada or Sania! The snacks are delicious, deep fried and calorie-rich. Fried cheese balls and stuffed mushrooms may not leave you fit for any sport but that's another story. Incidentally, there are no salads on the menu. As atonement, there are no desserts either.u00a0
