The traffic constable asked the biker to stop when he broke the traffic signal. Instead, the biker accelerated and hit the traffic constable before fleeing from the spot.

The traffic constable, Mahesh Ahivale (39) posted with Chembur traffic division, was at Priyadarshini Signal in Suman Nagar. Around 3.45pm, a biker jumped the red signal. Ahivale signalled for the biker to stop but the biker rammed into him in a bid to escape.

Ahivale fell to the ground withering in pain and the biker escaped. In all the chaos, nobody was able to note down the number of the bike. Another constable posted at the same signal took Ahivale to a hospital where he is recuperating from a fractured leg and bruises.

“We have registered a case against the unknown biker and we are expecting some help from the witnesses who were available at the time of accident,” Senior Police Inspector Damodar Chaudhari of Chunabhatti police station said. The Chunabhatti police have registered a case of hit and run against the unknown biker and further probe is on.u00a0
