Biker skids on wet road, pillion rider loses life

A 19-year-old engineering student lost his life after the motorcycle he was riding pillion on met with a freak accident last morning. The deceased was identified as Mohit Dodija. Officials from Chembur police station said that Dodija was riding with his friend Akshay Sadnani and the two were on their way to college. Sadnani left his residence in Thane and picked up Dodija from his Mulund residence. Both are second-year engineering students at Swami Vivekanand College in Chembur.

Officials said that at Umarshi Bappa Junction, a truck running parallel to their motorcycle suddenly turned left without prior indication. In order to avoid a collision, Sadnani applied the brakes, but could not control the bike, as it skidded off the wet road, and crashed into the truck. It was here that Dodija’s head hit the truck and he sustained injuries.

An official from Chembur police station informed, “After the incident, Sadnani got up and followed the truck. Though he managed to stop the truck, its driver succeeded in fleeing the spot.” Sadnani then went back to Dodija’s aid and rushed him to Rajawadi hospital. But Dodija was declared dead after admission. The police have registered a case of negligence against the absconding truck driver and have confiscated the vehicle.
