Incident near Parliament Street; victim lost cash and valuables worth about eight lakh rupees

Some men are driven by lust, others by purely materialistic needs. A female tourist from Indonesia was robbed of cash and valuables worth about Rs 8 lakh by bike-borne men in the Parliament Street area in Delhi on Wednesday. The locality falls in the high-security zone of the Capital.

The incident happened close to the Parliament House.

Police sources said that the victim, Tjahiono Sinaga, was travelling in an auto when two persons who were on a bike snatched her purse and rode away. The victim didn't even realise what had happened for some time. After discovering her loss, she came to Tughlak Road police station to get an FIR registered.

Police sources said that Sinaga had come to India to attend a function that was held at a south Delhi school. She was heading towards Chandni Chowk when the incident occurred.

"Her purse was contained some valuables worth nearly eight lakh rupees, 900 US dollars, her passport and other documents. She furnished the address of the Indonesian Embassy with the complaint as her whereabouts in the Capital. We have lodged a case against unknown persons," said a senior police official.

A pint of wine

A month ago three UK students were attacked outside a famous bar in the same area. The girls were in town to train as nurses at the St. Stephen's Hospital.
They had come outside the pub with their drinks and were on the way to their car in the parking. Three boys stopped them. They were in an inebriated condition and started molesting the two girls. Unperturbed by the sudden attack, a girl threw the wine from her glass at the assaulter and managed to flee.
