Bishan Bedi takes Dhoni & co to task after series loss

Almost 20 years after he made the infamous 'throw them in the Pacific' comment, Bishan Singh Bedi continues to be the angry man of Indian cricket.

The gun was clearly trained on skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who Bedi reckoned lacked imagination in his leadership.u00a0

Here's what the Sardar of Spin told MiD DAY from New Delhi last night:

"I thought Dhoni should have sent in lower order batsmen like Pravin Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja or even Harbhajan Singh and kept Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag for later.u00a0 Remember, we are in the age of power plays and this advantage should have been utilised. The Aussies were depleted, but their spirit to take the fight to the Indian camp was quite awe-inspiring.

The Indians had little clue to their strategy. We are far too obsessed with individual milestones.

There is not enoughu00a0 imagination taking place.

Look at the changes the Australians bring about. Don't we know how far Ashish Nehra or Munaf Patel will go?
And don't we know that when the wicket is bad, Harbhajan Singh is at his worst?

You must take the opposition by surprise. On a sticky wicket, Sir Don Bradman once sent in his tailenders for two hours; went in when the wicket was all right and smashed the hell out of England. This series loss was expected. Whoever was creating the impression that we would beat Australia was living in fool's paradise.

The Australians are not No 1 for nothing for such a long time. We are clamouring to be No 1, but we don't know how to be there. Australia are already No 1 and they know how to stay there.

There were experts who were saying the Australians were lucky. Nonsense.

You make your own luck. Are they lucky to be on top of world cricket for so long? They are bloody good!"
