It is Indian companies who import sub-standard adventure gear who are to blame for accidents like the one that claimed V Bhargav's life on Saturday.
"Most adventure gear in India is imported from Europe, but there is no dearth of fakes and sub-standard equipment," said Shubham Basu, an adventure sports expert. "In adventure sports there are two safety measuresu00a0the primary line, and the safety line. If one fails, the second helps. However, in sports like bungee-jumping, if the first fails there is no escape," Basu said.
Major SK Yadav, managing director, Wanderlust Travels Pvt Ltd, said, "During bungee-jumping, we strapu00a0 a harness to the waist of the participant and tie another to his foot, and there are air bags on the ground.
However, some agencies run by locals at certain hill stations are not as observant."
