Vinoda Poojari tops school with 77.84 per cent; wants to be a computer engineer
Vinoda Poojari (18) was overjoyed when she got her marksheet yesterday. She scored 77.84 per cent in her SSC exams.
While it may not appear as an extraordinary feat, what makes Vinoda's achievement laudable is that she is visually impaired and has topped her school after appearing for her SSC exams directly after Std VII.

Vinoda completed Std VII from Smt Kamla Mehta Dadar School for the Blind. However, because she was older than the other students, she found it difficult to adjust with them.

Since there was no doubt about her intelligence, her family asked her to directly appear for her SSC exams.

"We didn't take a risk. I was confident my daughter would excel. She will pass with flying colours even if she appears for BA right now," said a proud Vidyalaxmi, Vinoda's mother.
Vinoda said, "I thought I'd get more than 85 per cent. In fact, I started crying once I got to know my marks.

I stopped only when my teachers told me that I had topped the school. I owe my success to my vice principal and my writer Saburi Jadhav, who is a Std VIII student."

"I believed in Vinoda's potential and made arrangements for her to take the SSC exams. I asked Vinoda to appear for a test to know where she stands. After the test, I was sure Vinoda will get a distinction.

She proved me right," explained Arati Atharekar, vice principal, Smt Kamla Mehta Dadar School for the Blind. Vinoda has done a basic course in computers and aspires to be a computer engineer now.
