Acting on MiD DAY's report, civic officials towed fashion designer Nisha Sagar's cars that were blocking building entrance; give ultimatum to remove the illegally installed iron grills
Thirteen days after MiD DAY reported on the inconvenience created by Nisha Sagar, daughter-in-law of Ramayan director Ramanand Sagar, BMC showed that it meant business when it warned the fashion designer, and removed two of her cars that were illegally parked at the entrance of Kailash building, Juhu Scheme.

Last week, more than 12 BMC officials, including assistant commissioner of K-west ward Ramesh Pawar, visited the building and warned Nisha to remove the iron grill, which she illegally installed in front of her ground floor flat. Then on Monday, a few civic officials again visited the building, and removed the cars, which had encroached the entrance passageway. They also cautioned her that necessary action would be taken if the grills weren’t removed at the earliest.
“While we were carrying out our work, a councillor from the area tried to pressurise us to refrain from taking any action, but we paid no heed to him and removed the cars,” said a BMC official, on condition of anonymity.
MiD DAY in its report (Fashion designers’ illegal construction irks residents, July 11) had highlighted the plight of residents who dreaded that the designers’ illegal structural alterations might bring their building down, and also that her illegally parked vehicle, which narrowed the entrance to the building, had put them at risk, in case of an emergency.
Building landlord Illa Gandhi and flat owners, in the past, had registered several complaints with the civic body and Juhu police station, but the authorities were helpless. According to residents since Nisha belongs to an influential family, she used to pressurise officials. “Nisha, who is a tenant, has also made illegal structural alterations to her flat that have compromised the structure’s safety, which has endangered our lives,” said Illa Gandhi.
“We are thankful to MiD DAY and the BMC officials who performed their duty,” said Ashok Jhunjhunwala, a tenant of the building.

“They (BMC officials) came, but did not take my car, as it wasn’t obstructing anybody. They mistook my car for someone else’s, which was on the footpath outside my gate,” said Nisha Sagar.u00a0
