The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stayed the auction of a housing society here after its residents agreed to pay their dues of Rs 1.24 crore to the civic body.
The civic body stayed the auction yesterday after the residents of Kingston building at Hiranandani complex in suburban Powai paid Rs 25 lakh. The remaining amount will be paid within a month, the residents have assured the BMC.

"Residents agreed to pay their dues. They have paid a sum of Rs 25 lakh on Tuesday and have agreed to pay the remaining amount within a month. We have for the time being stayed the auction and extended the time period by another month," said a BMC official.
"So far, the society has paid Rs 80 lakh in four installments for sewerage and water taxes to the BMC but haven't paid the dues and penalty," he said.
The BMC had decided to auction the building for non-payment of property tax amounting to Rs 1.24 crore. Since the residents were not willing to pay the dues, the civic body had initially said they would conduct the auction as they wanted to recover the Rs 1.24 crore that the society owed as water and sewerage taxes as well as penalty.
The residents had said they have already paid their dues, a claim refuted by the civic body.
