Proposal regarding it will be tabled before the Improvements Committee on December 7
If things work out well as per BMC’s new plan, then several peripheral civic-run hospitals will soon have additional dialysis centres on their premises.
Though the improvements committee is yet to approve the proposal of renting out open spaces on hospital premises to NGOs and welfare organisations to operate the dialysis centres, the cost of treatment will be similar to those charged at civic-run hospitals.

The proposal will be tabled before the improvements committee at a meeting on December 7 for approval. Currently, the dialysis centres have been proposed at seven peripheral civic-run hospitals. Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation will operate the dialysis centre at Kurla Bhabha Hospital in Kurla and V N Desai in Santacruz (E).
Similarly, Jeeto Mumbai will be handling dialysis centres at M T Agarwal Hospital in Mulund and Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar. Neminath Foundation will run the centre at Malad’s S K Patil Hospital. The M W Desai Hospital will host a dialysis centre run by Malad Medical Education Trust. Rehabar Foundation will run the dialysis centre at Govandi’s Shatabdi Hospital.
The place to operate the dialysis centres will be rented for 30 and the contract would be renewed after every ten years. At the time of renewals, all the organisations are supposed to deposit Rs 2.5 lakh with the BMC.
Improvements Committee chairperson Ram Barot said, “The proposal of having seven dialysis centres will be discussed at the next meeting. Several welfare organisations and NGOs who have applied, will be given permission to run these centres, as this is for a good cause.”
A BMC health officer, request of anonymity, said, “It will be a good decision if the committee approves the proposal by next week. Since NGOs will running the centres, patients will be treated almost at the same cost they pay at a civic-run hospital.”
