Some trivia first:u00a0Three films named ‘Barsaat’ have been made in Bollywood over the years.


Barsaat (1949): Directed by Raj Kapoor, this was among his earlier hits. Barsaat centres around two love stories – Pran (played by Kapoor) and Reshma (Nargis) and Gopal (Prem Nath) and Neela (Nimmi). While Kapoor is sensitive, Prem Nath plays a womaniser. Their love stories meet with different ends as Gopal disregards Neela and condemns her to wait for his return with the barsaat.


Barsaat (1995): The second Barsaat marked the debut of star kids Bobby Deol and Twinkle Khanna. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, it was a typical boy-meets-girl affair. Badal (Bobby Deol), a small town boy, comes to the city and falls in love with Tina (Twinkle Khanna). As usual, the girl’s father (Raj Babbar) does not take it well, and creates obstacles in the path of love. How the two lovers unite makes up the rest of the film.

Barsaat (2005): Bobby Deol it was who again starred in this 2005 film. The love triangle also featuring Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu was directed by Suneel Darshan. A married Arav (Bobby) goes to the US with an ambition to design cars. There, he meets Anna (Bipasha) and the two fall in love overtime. However, he has to return to India to attend to his ailing father. Here, he reconnects with his wife Kajal Kapoor (Priyanka). The dilemma for Arav is to choose between his wife and his love.

Baarish (1957): This flick starred Dev Anand and Nutan in lead roles. Ramu (Dev), who lives in a city, is involved in petty crimes. His close friend asks him to go to the village and look after his mother, and sister, Chanda (Nutan). Ramu and Chanda fall in love with each other, and the trio re-locates to the city. Now,u00a0Chanda wants Ramu to give up his criminal activities. Will he be allowed to do so?

Barsaat Ki Ek Raat (1981): Directed by Shakti Samanta, the film revolves around the blind Rajni (Rakhee) and her husband, Inspector Abhijit (Amitabh Bachchan). The honest inspector sends a wealthy contractor’s son Kaliram (Amjad Khan), who is a goon, to jail. After serving his sentence, Kaliram returns to seek revenge on a rainy day.

Monsoon Wedding (2001): This Mira Nair-directed offbeat flick tells the story of Lalit Verma (Naseeruddin Shah) and his painstaking efforts to organise an extravagant wedding for his daughter. Friends, relatives from all over the globe join in to make it a mega event. Situations range from the bizarre to extremely humourous, and eventually the monsoon wedding is successfully organised amidst fanfare.
