Just dial and let Hungry Hogs deliver fresh hot dogs right at your doorstep. The Guide finds out just how

When writer HL Mencken described the hot dog as, "rubber, indigestible pseudo-sausage", I couldn't say 'Nay' as I'm not a huge fan of these bread bundles either.

But when hunger pangs struck, I gave into America's most preferred food: the hot dog.

A perennial choice of many on-the-move youngsters, hot dogs has even been the inspiration behind the freestyle-skiing sex comedy flick 'Hot Dog'.

And could it be that being a foodie I would not be able to sniff out a new hot dog delivery service right in my neighbourhood.

Without further ado, I dialled in to a trio of techie-turned-foodie boy brigade who have begun a hot dog delivery service called Hungry Hogs just recently.

Rahul Cherian took my order on the phone and Darshan Ramanagoudra and Nag Manohar were at my door in twenty minutes with the delivery pack in hand. Nothing could have been quicker than this.

It was an order each of 'Sev The World', 'Jus' Chili'n', 'Say Cheese' and 'Plain Jane'. All the four variants are in vegetarian and non-vegetarian (only chicken, no red meats) versions.

Sev the world is for the chatpata lovers, comes with mashed vegetables and potatoes shaped into a sausage-like shape in the hot dog bread with sev, onions and mint and tamarind chutney sprinkled all over.

It tastes just like an average aloo-tikki from a chaat counter off the street.

Just Chili'n is for those who can brave a good dose of red-hot chillis and is made with Mexican chilli paste and mashed beans (rajma) and onions. It's quite like the popular US chilli dog.

I couldn't handle it after a single bite and moved to the Plain Jane.

And true to its name, the Plain Jane is plain yet suffices all that a hot dog is supposed to; a nice hot sausage with a hint of barbeque and mustard sauce and a dash of ketchup.

The best was yet to come. Say Cheese it was with cheese, coleslaw, jalapenos and onions, this chicken sausage tops our scoreboard amongst all the hot dogs.

The hot dogs come in neat white rectangular paper boxes with their Hungry Hogs logo, quirky green hot dog with chips alongside.

The potato chips could be given a miss unless the guys improve on its quality. Soft drinks can be ordered at Rs 25 a bottle.

Delivery in and around Koramangala is free, but wait for a few days for them to start delivery outside the 3 kms Koramangala radius.
