Pretending to be a Dawood Ibrahim aide, Pardeshi (35) messaged builder Maganlal Malik and asked him to hand over Rs 50 lakh as protection money to Shaikh in Kondhwa. Pardeshi’s luck ran out as police officials used the cellphone number, from which Malik had received the message, to trace his location and arrested him on Tuesday night.
Malik in his compliant told the officials that he received the message on September 22. “It read: Main Nasir Shaikh, Dawood Ibrahim ka aadmi hu, mujhe kal 11 baje tak 50 lakh niche diye pate par chahiye. My address is Homestead row houses, Kondhwa. Agar meri demand puri nahi ki toh tumhe tumhari family ke sath uda dunga. (My name’s Nasir Shaikh and I’m Dawood Ibrahim’s aide. I want you to deliver Rs 50 lakh on the following address by 11 am tomorrow. If you fail to do so, we’ll shoot you and your family),” Malik said.
He said the next morning at 9 am he received two calls, but was scared to answer them. “After discussing the issue with family members, we approached the AEC officials and lodged a complaint,” Malik said. PI Sachin Sawant said they initially went to the address mentioned in the message and discovered that the house belonged to Shaikh.
He said the officials then started tracing the cellphone’s location from which Malik had received the message. “On Tuesday evening, we got the cellphone location — Kalewadi phata. Accordingly we laid a trap and arrested Pardeshi from his residence,” API S H Subalkar said.
During interrogation, Pardeshi said he was working for the back office for the last 18 months. He said Shaikh was targeting him over errors he would commit in work and had reprimanded Pardeshi that if his poor performance continued then he would be kicked out of the company. “This angered Pardeshi and he decided to teach Shaikh a lesson. He found Malik’s in a diary and on September 22 and messaged him,” Sawant said.
Pareshi believed that police officials would track down Shaikh and put him behind bars for trying to extort money from a builder. A case of extortion was registered against Pardeshi at the Sawrgate police station. He was produced in the court yesterday and was remanded in police custody till today.
