A courageous four-year-old girl managed to free herself from the clutches of a 35-year-old man who was trying to rape her in DN Nagar in Andheri late Sunday night.

The accused, identified as Akmal Ahmed, an employee at a garment shop, was nabbed by the locals and given a thrashing before being handed over to the police. The cops booked him on the charge of molestation and under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. He has been remanded in police custody. u00a0This is the second incident in two days in Andheri where a minor was rescued from a rapist in the nick of time.

The accused in Sunday’s case is the survivor’s neighbour. The child was out playing with her friends when Ahmed arrived and took her to an isolated place where, inside an auto rickshaw parked by the road, he took off her underwear. But the daring little girl bit him and managed to run back to her house. In a traumatised state, she recounted the torment to her parents. She was inconsolable.

Since the accused resides in the area, he was easily identified and located. Angry locals caught hold of him and beat him up before turning him in at the local police station.

An officer from DN Nagar police station said, “The accused, Ahmed, has been charged with molestation and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He was produced in the Andheri court and remanded in police custody. The child was extremely shaken, and after consoling her, we took down her statement. Her friends are prime eyewitnesses in the case.”

Second such horror in two days
A day before Sunday’s incident, a five-year-old was kidnapped by Mohammad Naseem Sheikh, who took her to his house in Oshiwara with the intent to brutalise her. However, a woman from the locality saw him surreptitiously take the child away and alerted the locals. The concerned people rushed to his house just in time to break up the crime. He was handed over to the cops.u00a0
