Broadway comes to town

Delna Mody, Louiz Banks, Joe Alvares, Shahriyar Atai and a few more artists will perform together at a musical, Broadway and Beyond, which premieres tomorrow at the NCPA.

With a team of about 25 performers including Hormazd Khambatta’s dance troupe, the group is all set to revisit Broadway musicals and the classics of yesteryear through their show. Get ready to listen to some of the best-loved songs, from musicals such as Chicago, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cabaret, Man of La Mancha, Mamma Mia and many more during this power-packed performance.

“We have been very involved with musical theatre since a young age. I have watched many Broadway musicals and I was inspired by them,” says Raell Padamsee, who has produced the show. “I felt there is so much incredible talent in India that needs to be showcased and I try to showcase them through my productions,” she adds. According to her, this musical does not just showcase different genres of music but also different generations of talent. “The show includes all my favourites from Broadway like Memories, All That Jazz, and also many classics. That is why it is called Broadway and beyond,” she says. The show will include a special section by Louiz Banks; overall, the performance will be very interactive, informs Padamsee.

She adds that this show is not just a tribute to Broadway musicals but also to her parents. “Without them, there would not have been much musical theatre in India,” she says.
