Chhetri, who was posted as the main gate security for the office on Vittal Mallya Road was returning to his position after his dinner, when he saw two bike-borne men standing at the gate at around 8.30 pm.

When Chhetri approached them, the duo asked him to open the main gate. Chhetri tried to send them back saying that Mantri office was closed on Saturday and Sunday, and would reopen on Monday.

The duo got irritated, and one of them pulled out a pistol and fired at the office indiscriminately. Chhetri ran toward the basement to protect himself and heard two more shots.

"They were holding firearms with lots of rounds, and fired continuously at the building," Chhetri told the police.

A few minutes later Chhetri realised that he should check again, and mustered courage to go to the main gate. The duo was still at the gate, and fired one more round in the ground.

While leaving in a hurry, they left the helmet behind and shot one more round at the banner located at the corner of the office.

With Chhetri noticing the drama, one of them aimed at him, but then decided against firing at him, he said.

The duo dropped six envelops each had a slip with Ravi Pujari's name and his contact number. Chhetri later informed Mohan Kumar, the deputy general manager, who in turn, informed the police.

"Pujary has been calling the office, demanding money for the past one-and half years. " He had also sent his associates to scare us, when we pain no attention to his extortion calls," Kumar said.

The Cubbon Park police are now trying to track down the number that was on the slip. "We are trying to access the phone details to check for possible leads," a police officer working on this case told this reporter.
