Burglars bashed up for robbing women's hostel in Balewadi stadium

The duo had slept on hostel premises after the crime; got caught while trying to escape after waking up in the morning

Two burglars who had robbed a woman in Krida Prabodhini women’s hostel at Balewadi stadium in the night were caught while trying to escape in the morning. The robbers, identified as Abhishek Korde and Mohammed Shaikh, has slept in the hostel premise after committing the crime and were caught, beaten up by people who had come to stadium to exercise in the morning.


According to BP Bhasme, API of Hinjewadi police station, the duo had entered Priti Patel’s room in Krida Prabodhini hostel late at night. “As there was no grill in the bathroom window, they entered the woman’s room and robbed her of valuable of about Rs 33,000. They even threatened her with a knife,” said BP Bhasme, API, Hinjewadi police station.


Soon after robbing Patel, the duo hid near the water tank, which is located inside the stadium premise. When people from the stadium’s water department saw Korde and Shaikh sleeping, they called a few other people who had come there to exercise. Hearing the commotion, the duo woke up and tried to escape. In the melee, they attacked hostel employee Narayan Waghdare with the knife.


“When people saw them running, they started pelting them with stones. Before they could climb the compound wall, they were caught and beaten up. In the attack, Korde’s leg and Shaikh’s hand got fractured. The duo was then handed over to us,” said Bhasme, adding that Korde also wanted in several robbing cases. When Patel came to know of the incident, she went to the police station and identified Korde. Police have arrested Korde and Shaikh under sections 392 and 397 of the IPC.

However, the duo too have filed a cross complaint on people who had beaten them before handing them over to the police. “We have even booked them under Sections 143, 147, 149, 325 of IPC,” Bhasme said.u00a0
