The four terrorised Wadala with house break-ins and robberies in the last six months; no fresh case reported since their arrest

Residents of Wadala are finally able to sleep in peace. A gang of four burglars, who struck a friendship while in prison and terrorised the area with 12 house break-ins and robberies in the last six months, was finally put behind bars two weeks ago. Wadala TT police say since the arrest, no house break-in or burglary has been reported from the area.

The police said Amjad Ali Hasan Shaikh (24) of Kalwa, Wadala residents Muteen Ahmad Abdul Rajjad Shaikh (39) and Sadam Hussain Noor Mohommad Ansari, and Salman Yunus Khan (21) from Mumbra were arrested two weeks ago for a mobile phone theft in Bhakti Park, Wadala. Amjad was the first to be tracked down, through cell tower triangulation. He had kept the phone for himself. During his interrogation, he spilled the beans on his aides. The police immediately arrested the other three.
Met in jail
A Wadala TT police officer said the four met in prison, after they were arrested for petty burglaries and house break-ins, and “After they got out on bail, they ganged up and began robbing and burgling homes.”
Often, the four allegedly held their senior citizens at knifepoints, snatched their valuables and made a quick getaway. At other times, they did a reconnaissance of houses that were locked up, broke into them at night and decamped with their loot, said the officer. “Amjad and Sadam stole the valuables, and Muteen and Salman arranged for their sale.”
12 cases solved in one go
The arrests helped the police crack 12 burglaries and robbery cases in Zone IV. The gang has been named in all the 12 cases, and is suspected to be involved with several cases in other police stations in the zone. The police have also recovered a number of valuables from the burglars.
The police officer said following the arrests, no fresh case of house burglaries or thefts have been reported from the area.
All four burglars have been booked under sections 454 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking to commit offence), 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night to commit offence), 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC, and remanded in police custody.
