Businessman held for firing in Chembur

Mayur Singh (32), a resident of Vashi and owner of a shipping company at Ballard Estate was arrested by Chembur police on charges of attempt to murder and obstructing a government official from carrying out his work.

Mayur had opened a fire from his pistol to scare the BEST bus driver, with whom he had a scuffle on overtaking at Chembur on Thursday morning.

"He had opened three rounds of fire. We had informed on wireless about a Maruti Swift car and tracked him to Ballard Estate and arrested him from his office," Balasaheb Pachundkar, Senior PI, Chembur police station said.

According to the Chembur police, the car and the bus were en-route to Mumbai from Vashi when an argument between the drivers broke out.

"The person who was driving the car was in a hurry and wanted to overtake the bus. However, the BEST bus driver did not give him a way," said an officer from Chembur police station.

"The person managed to drive past the bus and after stopping his car in front of it, started arguing with the BEST driver," the officer said.

Fearing public wrath after he manhandled the driver, he pulled out a revolver and fired one bullet in the air, police said, adding he immediately fled from the scene.

Mayur will be produced in Kurla court on Friday.
