Boy beaten up in public for speaking to girl from different community
A girl and a boy, victims of yet another case of moral policing, are too scared to file a police complaint.
"The victims have not filed any complaint with the police. We have, however, taken up the case and investigation is in progress," said Gopal Hosur, DIG (western range).
The incident occurred when Akheel, an employee in a private firm, was having juice with his friends Anu Smitha and Susheela. Akheel's father, Abdul Khader, and Smitha's father are colleagues at New Mangalore Port and the families know each other.
When Akheel saw Smitha along with her friend Susheela, he offered to buy them a juice. Soon, a group of four young men on two bikes approached Akheel and asked whether he was a Muslim. When he replied in the positive, they slapped him and dragged him on to the road and beat him up in full public view. They fled the scene as the public watched on mutely.
Tension gripped the city after the news spread like wildfire. Police rushed to the spot and are yet to find out the identity of the miscreants.
