We are not quite sure what the name means (the staff didn't have a satisfactory reply either) but Maskaamaria, at first glance, seems like a fun place to be. Situated bang on the college-infested Law College Road, this place is aimed at the teeny-boppers and it shows.

Done up in bright greens, purples and red, with indoor as well as outdoor seating, the caf ufffd was semi-full at lunch hour. Youngsters dropped in and lingered to watch cricket and corporate suits dropped in for a quick meal.

Maskaamaria claims to serve world cuisine, which consists of Italian, Mexican, Malaysian, Singaporean and a single Egyptian dish. All blended well with the flavours of India.

Hot as it was, we started off with their Orange Milk Shake (Rs 66) -- a nice blend of orange-kesar-pista ice-cream and milk, laced with dried fruit slivers. We also gave their Malaysian iced tea, Iced Limau Lumputeh (Rs 33) a try. The menu promised iced tea with lemongrass and mint but ours was merely original tea steeped in lemon and chilled.

We wanted to taste the world on our platter, so we began with a French Oignon Zuppe (Rs 66). The onion soup came thicker than authentic and liberally sprinkled with fried, brown onions. We were intrigued by the fusion of Italy and Mexico, so we opted for Italian Nachos (Rs 111). The four nachos (Mexican component) made up the circle of a pizza and came topped with what tasted like the bhaji of pav bhaji mixed in with and topped with a layer of mozzarella cheese (Italian component).

Next, the Khushri (Rs 88), an Egyptian dish, made its appearance. This is a bowlful of rice, spaghetti and penne all mixed in with a tomato-based gravy. It had too much tomato for our liking.

That's why we needed an Ail Cheese Bread (Rs 88) to help us through with it. This is six pieces of regular garlic bread topped with herbs and mozzarella and served with the same tomato salsa.

Finally, it was time for dessert. They have an unusual option of carrot halwa topped with vanilla ice-cream but unfortunately, that wasn't available yet. So, we opted for Splendour (Rs 66), a vodka pastry, instead. It's not the best but to be fair it wasn't too bad either.u00a0u00a0Maskaamaria is the sort of space intended for a quick bite as well as for those who want to linger on. And plus it's located just right.
