Amid the hustle and bustle of regular city malls and branded clothes, comes an exhibition that focuses on extraordinary silk and cotton weaves. So, if you are in a mood to sport something quaint this festive season, head to the Silk Exhibition for the perfect Diwali attire.
It has been organised by the Village Art and Craft Foundation and stocks ethnicwear from across the country. The foundation was set up to boost the handicraft industry and completely does away with middlemen. Each artisan is allowed to exhibit their work themselves and share their knowledge about each piece.

There are around 50 stalls displaying silk and cotton sarees, dress materials, salwar-kameez pieces and kurtis. Apart from that, you will also spot home furnishings, jewellery, artefacts and bags. You will come across products from Andhra Pradesh (such as Pochampally, Kalamkaree and Magalgeeree), Assam (Moonga Tussar, Malbaree), Bihar (Tussar, Kantha, Madhubani prints, Khadi silk, raw silk, Taleta silk), Chattisgarh (Kantha, Kosa silk), Gujarat (Patola, Bandhini, block prints), Jammu and Kashmir (printed silk sarees, woolen stoles), Madhya Pradesh (Chanderee silk), Maharashtra (cotton sarees, wall hangings), Rajashthan (Bandhej, bedsheets and covers, Bandhini suits), Tamil Nadu (Kanchipuram sarees), Uttar Pradesh (Jamdani silk, Jamawar, Banarasi silk), West Bengal (Baluchari, Kantha, Tanth cotton, Manipuri Kosha) and Orissa (Katki cotton and silk, Bongkai silk, Pattachitra paintings).u00a0

We liked: We fell in love with the elegant silk sarees and salwar kameez pieces from West Bengal. They are available in subtle shades of cream, gold, silver, violet and light pink. The cotton silk dress materials from Bihar and Jharkhand had block prints, which were also quite elegant. The kurtis from Mumbai were a tad overpriced (Rs 350 onwards). The Katki and Bongkai sarees from Orissa were colourful and we also liked the Banarasi silk sarees. The materials from Kashmir were unimpressive.
Prices: Dress materials (cotton silk) start from Rs 150 onwards while cotton sarees are priced at Rs 450 onwards. Silk sarees start from Rs 750 onwards
