While the dazzling and extravagant Indian Premier League opening ceremony at Salt Lake Stadium yesterday caught the fancy of all and sundry, it was a case of sour grapes for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), with many of its members and associates giving it a miss.
Its demand for tickets was also not met, which left officials grumbling. The CAB has 121 units under its wings and a section of the members boycotted the opening gala after being denied tickets.

“We were completely kept out of the loop for the opening ceremony,” CAB joint secretary Biswarup Dey said, adding that very few car park stickers were provided by Red Chillies Entertainment, the organisers of the show.
