A drunk man rammed his car into five policemen in Delhi today leaving all of them injured.

Five policemen were injured early today when a drunken bar manager rammed his car in the barricades put up for checking vehicles in east Delhi, an official said.


The incident took place at 2 am near the Commonwealth Games village in east Delhi when a Chevrolet Aveo car going towards Ghaziabad hit the five policemen on duty.


"The car first collided with a divider and then rammed into the police barricade injuring five policemen of the eight standing there (for checking vehicles)," said a senior police officer.


Sunil Sharma (27) who was driving the car has been arrested. He was coming from his bar located at Gurgaon, police said.

All the injured were taken to Delhi's Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.

The injured were identified as Sunder Lal and Manoj Kumar, both head constables, Shish Lal and Avnish, both constables, and home guard Sipahi Singh.

While Sunder Lal, Manoj Kumar and Shish Lal were discharged from hospital, Sipahi Singh was referred to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital and Avnish to a private nursing home in east Delhi, police said.

Sharma was under the influence of alcohol, police said and the breathalyser reading placed him at 90 mg/litre. The legal limit is 30 mg/litre.
