Twin cylinder Royal Enfield bike spotted testing in Pune

The twin cylinder Royal Enfield Continental GT has been one of the most highly anticipated motorcycles in recent times, especially after being spotted testing a couple of times in Europe and in the country a month back. The bike has yet again been spotted testing a couple of days back and this time it was in Pune. As evident from the photos, the bike seems very similar to the Continental GT in terms of design and styling. In fact, even the chassis is the same. The engine, however, is an all-new unit and has been the most intriguing aspect of the bike. It is a 750cc unit that is speculated to develop 60Nm of peak torque mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The engine is likely to have a 270-degree firing order as it offers minimal vibrations with optimal power delivery. Another new element that sets the bike apart from the Continental GT is the twin exhaust system.

The bike was probably being taken to the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for testing and was trailing a Royal Enfield carrier truck with a Tamil Nadu license plate. This probably means that the bike was brought to Pune all the way from the Royal Enfield manufacturing plant in Chennai. The twin-cylinder engine on the bike is expected to be an oil-cooled unit similar to that on the Himalayan. As spotted in the earlier pictures, the bike uses a Clubman-styled handlebars, primarily for relaxed ergonomics compared to the conventional Continental GT.

The new bike gets a twin-pod instrument cluster with a digital screen on the left to display odometer, tripmeter and fuel level. It gets spoke wheels shod with Pirelli tyres. We expect the motorcycle to get an ABS system as standard. The motorcycle looks production ready and we are affirmative on the fact that Royal Enfield will display the motorcycle at the 2017 EICMA Expo in Milan, Italy and at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi, India. We expect it to carry a price tag of Rs 3.5 – 4 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will face competition from Harley-Davidson Street 750.

Watch out to this space for more info on the motorcycle.
